As a passionate member of the Hobart musical theatre community, when I had the opportunity to research the history of the Theatre Royal as part of my undergraduate degree, I jumped at the chance. Some years later I digitised it, and in doing so I filled many gaps in the research - embracing the opportunity to interview (and share some red wine with) many stalwarts of the theatre scene. The research gained a life of its own...and became a more thorough and beautiful work:

Treading the Boards: A Popular History of the Theatre Royal, Hobart, The Theatre Royal Light Opera Company, and other theatrical developments.

It was commonplace, as a 12 year old student in 1970s Australia,  to be asked to investigate, and draw up, a family tree. This was the first time I recall being introduced to those who ‘had gone before me’. My grandfather, Eric John Peacock, shared many stories of his own childhood and showed me  the Peacock family Bible, and told me of its original owner, George Stromborn Peacock, Pop’s great-grandfather. As a child of 12, I didn’t really understand the significance of the family Bible, or the role of its owner, but I was always intrigued...

The Peacock Family: From Taunton to Tasmania

The Peacock Family: From Taunton to Tasmania traces the history of George Stromborn Peacock's family from before their emigration in 1834 to Van Diemen's Land (lutruwita/Tasmania). It links the family back to its roots in Taunton, Somerset, England and also identifies the familial connections to Thomas Love Peacock, the satirical novelist and poet. Each branch of the family, including those descended from both Peacock and Innes lines, is explored from their arrival in Van Diemens Land through the generations to the mid 1900s (or more recently, where possible).

The book includes rare family photographs and documents, thus ensuring their preservation into the future.
